Fabulous South of Boston Makeover ~ 2007
We've all imagined what it would be like to be swept off our feet with a celebrity-style head-to-toe makeover, but for one Braintree woman the Hollywood fantasy came true right here on the South Shore.
Before Susan MacCormack learned that she was the lucky winner of a Fabulous in Full Force makeover she had never even changed the color of her hair let alone enjoy any pampering treatments. As a 38-year-old, married, working mother of two children ages 4 and 2, MacCormack rarely spent time or money on herself. Between working 50-60 hours a week as a marketing manager for Columbia Management, dropping off and picking up her kids at daycare and preschool, and day-to-day housework, her wardrobe had become utilitarian and casual. “I can’t remember the last time I actually went clothes or makeup shopping outside of shoes or bags,” MacCormack wrote in her submission letter. “I completely feel frumpy and I would love to look fabulous again.”
South Shore women to get fully Fabulous
By Jody Feinberg
After the sell-out success of her first ladies-night-out event last spring, marketer Julie Fairweather realized her hunch was right - surburban women want to look and feel great without going to Boston for services.
With a larger venue showasing South Shore services, 'Fabulous in Full Force' comes to Quincy from 7pm to 11pm Thursday at the Granite Links Golf Club at Quarry Hills.
"Businesses that cater to women have been growing in the suburbs, but a lot of times women don't know about them," said Fairweather, a Wakefield mother of three who grew up in Braintree. "It's exciting to bring businesses together for women that will show them they don't need to go into Boston to look fabulous."
"Fabulous in Full Force" is emceed by Matt Siegel, Billy Costa and Lisa Roach of KISS 108's "Matty in the Morning Show," and features a fashion show whose models are the stars of the television show "Dirty Water TV." The fashions include Gail Schneider, Crossing Main, Lyn Evans for Potpourri Designs, Talbots and Spoiled but Grateful.
A new line of high-end boots and dress shoes by Crocs will debut, in advance of their arrival in stores later this month. There's al also a demonstration of one of the newest fitness trends for women - pole dancing.
The 50-plus vendors include spas, salons, skin treatment centers, jewelry and clothing stores, exercise programs, and prepared meal services. While browsing, women can receive make-up consultations and massages. There's also a silent auction to benefit South Shore Hospital.
The evening includes complimentary hors d'oeuvres by Gourmet Caterers, desserts by Upper Crust, Montillo's and Fountain Fantasy and wine and cocktails.
Tickets are $40. A VIP reception is from 6 to 7 pm and costs $100, with proceeds benefiting South Shore Hospital. For more information, call 617-840-1965 or go to www.infullforce.com.
